At the “Kemal Kapetanović” Institute in Zenica, the promotion of the Register of Home Fireplaces in the area of the Zenica-Doboj Canton was held today.
The promotion was attended by the Prime Minister of the Zenica-Doboj Canton Nezir Pivić, the Minister for Spatial Planning, Transport and Communications and Environmental Protection Adnan Šabani, the Deputy Chairman of the ZDK Assembly Goran Bulajić, the representative in the ZDK Assembly Alen Kapković, representatives of competent cantonal institutions, local communities, as well as members of the academic community and the non-governmental sector. The register was presented by representatives of the consortium of companies Ceteor doo Sarajevo, E3 doo Sarajevo and GDI.
It was pointed out that the Register of Home Stoves represents a key professional basis for planning and implementing measures to reduce air pollution, especially in the segment of individual stoves, and that it includes data for all 12 cities and municipalities in the Zenica-Doboj Canton.
The Prime Minister of the Zenica-Doboj canton, Nezir Pivić, emphasized that ZDK is an industrial canton that strives to establish a balance between economic development and environmental protection.
– Sustainable development is one of the fundamental commitments of the ZDK Government. Creating the Register of home fireplaces represents a significant step forward and a reliable professional basis for planning and implementing measures to reduce air pollution, especially in the area of individual fireplaces – said Prime Minister Pivić.
He added that with this project, Zenica-Doboj canton became the first administrative unit in Bosnia and Herzegovina that systematically fights against growing air pollution.
Adnan Šabani, Minister for Spatial Planning, Transport and Communications and Environmental Protection of the Zenica-Doboj Canton, addressed the attendees, who emphasized the importance of the Register as a foundation for a systemic solution to the problem of air pollution.
On that occasion, he stated that the Government of the ZDK approved 330,000 KM at the previous sessions for the establishment of the Register of Home Stoves, which is carried out by the “Kemal Kapetanović” Institute of the University of Zenica.
In the meantime, the Ministry has published a Public Call for suppliers to deliver equipment with installation, within the Air Quality Improvement Project, which is being implemented with the support of the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) – the World Bank, with the aim of implementing energy efficiency measures in the area of the canton.
– Thanks to previously implemented projects and the establishment of the Register of Home Stoves, the ZDK Government, with the support of the World Bank, secured 8 million euros for the fight against air pollution and financial support for the citizens of all 12 cities and municipalities, whereby the measures will be co-financed in the amount of 50 percent – Minister Šabani pointed out.
The promotion and announcement of the Public Call represent an important step towards improving air quality and strengthening environmental protection in the Zenica-Doboj Canton.
