Pope Leo XIV. last night he called for a one-day Christmas truce around the world, without mentioning any specific conflict but expressing regret that “Russia appears to have rejected the request for a truce”.
“I repeat this request to all people of good will to observe at least one day of peace on this feast of the Savior’s birth,” the Pope said as he left his residence in Castel Gandolfo, near Rome, before returning to the Vatican, reports HINA.
“Perhaps they will listen to us and there will be 24 hours of peace throughout the world. What particularly saddens me is the fact that Russia seems to have rejected the request for a cease-fire,” he noted.
Leo XIV. will celebrate his first Christmas Mass since being elected pope before giving the traditional “Urbi et Orbi” (to the city and the world) blessing at noon on Thursday, in which the pope traditionally gives an overview of the world’s conflicts.
