On Wednesday night, in an apartment in Hrasnica, Adnan Lokvančić is suspected of brutally killing his mother and brother. Members of the MUP of Sarajevo Canton arrested the suspect at the scene. During the day, he was handed over to the KS Prosecutor’s Office.

“The suspect for the cruel murder of his mother and brother, Adnan Lokvančić, has been handed over to the KTKS. He will be detained for 24 hours, and within that legal term the acting prosecutor will decide on further measures against the suspect,” said the Prosecutor’s Office.
The motive for the murder is unknown, and the media reports that the suspect’s lawyer will request a neuropsychiatric examination for his client. All this causes shock and disbelief among citizens, but also a dose of fear and insecurity with the question of who lives in their surroundings?
The minister claims that the security situation has not worsened
And while the investigation will determine the circumstances, such crimes are shocking, but they are individual cases, according to KS Minister of Internal Affairs Admir Katica. There is no danger for citizens and he claims that the security situation in Canton Sarajevo has not worsened.
“Looking at the data we have, the statistics we monitor, especially in certain forms of crime, there is a stable situation, but we can never be satisfied as soon as an isolated event occurs that creates a feeling of insecurity among citizens. We want them to have a better sense of security”, says Admir Katica, KS Minister of Interior for BHRT.
A similar message from the FUP
A similar message to citizens comes from the Federal Police Administration and cantonal police commissioners. The assessment is that the security situation in the territory of the Federation of BiH is satisfactory, although there are more serious crimes, and that the police are doing a good job in terms of prevention.
“The security situation in the territory of the Federation is more than good. Considering the complexity of the system, we can still say that we are a safe environment”, believes Igor Marić, director of the FUP.
Individual crimes
“I think that the police are doing a good job in terms of prevention, and I think that BPK is a relatively peaceful and safe canton when you look at the statistics. There are results from the police that are on the ground,” points out Edin Vranj, Minister of Internal Affairs of BPK Goražde.
Therefore, the conclusion of the police commissioners is that individual crimes do not indicate that the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina has become unsafe. Citizens sometimes have a different feeling after femicides, murders, shootings and get the impression that crime is on the rise. A safe environment requires investments in police officers and their equipment, but also better coordination between cantons.
