In northwest England, an XL Bully dog attacked an 84-year-old man as he was walking home from a pub. The attack lasted about 45 minutes, during which the victim suffered severe facial injuries and was conscious. The man died a month later in the hospital, reports dpa.
The police killed the dog, weighing about 46 kilograms, with ten shots.
The owner of the dog, 31 years old, was sentenced to 12 years in prison for keeping a dangerous dog that was out of control and without a legal license. According to reports, the dog was inadequately secured, and the investigation revealed serious lapses by the owner. In Great Britain, the keeping of XL Bully dogs is prohibited from February 2024, except for previously registered animals.
In Germany, the XL Bully is not yet specifically classified as a breed, so it is not on the lists of dangerous dogs at the federal level, although individual provinces have their own regulations for risky breeds such as pit bulls and Staffordshire terriers.
