According to El País, Dutton was arrested in the province of Alicante on the same day that a new international action was launched in Spain against the most wanted British fugitives, including him.
His arrest is part of a wider investigation into a network linked to drug trafficking and document forgery. The investigation was launched in November 2025 after 16 kilograms of hashish was found in a package to Great Britain.
In addition to Dutton, three other people were arrested. His extradition to Great Britain will be decided by a Spanish court.
Dutton, originally from Bolton near Manchester, has previously been identified as a key figure in a cocaine smuggling ring through Spain to the UK. His name has been associated for years with Operation Captura, launched in 2006 to find British criminals hiding in Spain.
