Blockades of border crossings in BiH 2026 have been announced again for March 12, if an agreement is not reached by tomorrow on the problem of the residence of professional drivers in the European Union. This message was sent by representatives of the international road transport sector after the Plenum meeting of the Logistics Consortium of BiH held in Matuzići near Doboj.
Carriers warn that they face restrictive application of the rules of residence in the European Union, especially within the Schengen rule of 90 days in a period of 180 days. As they state, such practice creates serious problems in the work of transport companies, with additional controls and delays at the borders, which directly affects business and creates financial losses in the international road transport sector.
They are asking the institutions of Bosnia and Herzegovina, including the Council of Ministers and the Presidency, to launch an initiative for a moratorium on this kind of application of the rules and to define a special status for professional drivers during their stay in the countries of the European Union.
Carriers sent a request for a political response and coordination of institutions
In the requests presented by the representatives of the Consortium, the need for a clear political response to the institutions of the European Union is stated, so that domestic carriers are protected from, as they claim, an unequal position in international supply chains.
At the same time, they also demand coordinated action by domestic institutions, while insisting that the meetings with competent government representatives be public and held in the presence of the media.
The announcement also mentions a proposal for financial compensation for the transport sector through monthly aid that would range between 21 and 30 million convertible marks.
According to estimates made by representatives of the sector, the situation in the transport industry is already serious, as around 36 percent of road carriers’ capacities are currently blocked. They warn that such a situation directly affects exports, budget revenues and jobs in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Blockades of border crossings in BiH 2026, as stated by the BiH Logistics Consortium, are not a political action but an attempt to draw attention to problems that threaten to further destabilize the transport sector and widen economic flows in the country. At the same time, they announced the organization of coordinators in cities throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina, who should coordinate the activities of the carriers in the coming days, writes RTV Slon.
