JP Autoceste FBiH has announced a new large tender for the construction of additional sections of the Mostar – Široki Brijeg – border highway with Croatia, which further accelerates this strategic project.
We are talking about works worth almost 200 million KM without VAT, which include the construction of more than 13 kilometers of new expressway on the way to the border with Croatia.
New kilometers: more than 13 km in one stage
The tender refers to the section Deposit – the border of the Republic of Croatia, through two sections:
- Uzarici – Polugrno (8.28 km)
- Polog – Uzarici (4.9 km)
In total, we are talking about 13.18 kilometers of new modern road, the construction of which is planned within 30 months, while the criterion for choosing the contractor is the lowest price.
The deadline for the submission of offers is June 9, 2026.
It is already being built: another 12 kilometers in full swing
This tender comes at a time when works on other sections of the same road are already well under way, it says BiznisInfo.ba.
Two sections are currently active:
- Polugrno – Podledinac (5.48 km)
- Podledinac – Grude East (6.36 km)
This means that about 11.84 kilometers of this expressway through Herzegovina is already under construction.
Total: more than 25 kilometers under construction
When you add up the existing sections under construction and the new ones that are the subject of tenders, we arrive at an impressive figure: more than 25 kilometers of expressway are currently under construction or about to start work.
This clearly shows that the project is entering the most intensive phase of realization after years of waiting.
Part of a wider traffic revolution
The expressway Mostar – Široki Brijeg – Grude – Croatian border is part of a wider project connecting Herzegovina with Dalmatia.
The total length of this road through BiH is about 60 kilometers, and its importance is manifold:
- direct connection with Croatia and the EU
- faster access to the Makarska Riviera and Split
- facilitated transport of goods and passengers
- strengthening of tourism and economy
In parallel, the construction of the Zagvozd – Imotski – BiH border road is being prepared in Croatia, which will directly connect to this route.
A historic step forward for Herzegovina
After many years of delays, this project is now being realized with full intensity.
If the plans come true, Western Herzegovina will get a modern and fast road connection to the sea for the first time, which represents one of the most important infrastructural advances in the last few decades.
The new tender of almost 200 million KM additionally confirms that it is a project that will completely change the traffic image of this part of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
