The Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina records a continuation of a negative natural increase. According to the Federal Bureau of Statistics, in 2024. 15,375 children were born, while the number of deaths reached 20,195, resulting in negative natural increment from -4,820.
Most born in Sarajevo and Tuzla Canton
The largest number of newborns was recorded in the Sarajevo Canton (3,757) and Tuzla Canton (3,080). However, at the same time, these cantons had the largest number of deaths – Tuzla Canton recorded 4,175 deceased, while the 4,077 person was died in Sarajevo Canton.
Negative natural increment in nine cantons
The data show that the natural increase was negative in as many as nine from ten cantons in the Federation of BiH. The only canton with a positive natural increase in 2024. year was the West Herzegovina Canton.
Marriages and divorces: Most weddings in KS, the most divorce in TK
During 2024. in the Federation of BiH, 10,489 marriages were concluded, while 1,461 divorce was registered. Most marriages were concluded in Sarajevo Canton (2,146), and the least in the Posavina Canton (103).
Tuzla Canton leads to the number of divorce – 343 were recorded, while the least divorce was 10, only 12.

These data confirm the continuation of the trend of the population in the Federation of BiH, which may have long-term consequences on the economy, labor market and social policy.
