One of the greatest tennis players of all time, Rafael Nadal, in an interview with Netflix, on the occasion of the documentary “Rafa”, compiled a list of the ten greatest athletes in the history of sports.
To the surprise of many, Roger Federer, one of his biggest rivals, was not on his list, while Novak Djokovic was included among the sports elite, along with the biggest names from various disciplines.
Nadal’s list includes Michael Jordan (basketball), Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods (golf), Novak Djokovic (tennis), Muhammad Ali (boxing), Michael Schumacher (Formula 1), Usain Bolt (athletics), Michael Phelps (swimming), Diego Maradona and Pele (football).
Jordan took first place, as a symbol of global basketball and a player who won six NBA titles with the Chicago Bulls, with a huge impact on the popularization of the sport around the world.
In golf, Jack Nicklaus, the record holder for the number of Major titles, and Tiger Woods, who marked the modern era of this sport and set numerous records on the PGA Tour, were singled out.
According to Nadal’s choice, Novak Djokovic is a representative of tennis and one of the most trophy-winning athletes in history, with a record number of Grand Slam titles, weeks at the top of the ATP list and a number of other historical achievements.
Muhammad Ali is listed as the greatest boxing legend, Michael Schumacher as one of the most successful Formula 1 drivers, while Usain Bolt and Michael Phelps are marked as the dominant Olympic champions in athletics and swimming.
Football is represented by Diego Maradona and Pele, two names that marked different eras of world football and left a deep mark in the history of the game.
Nadal’s choice has reopened discussions among fans, especially because of the omission of Roger Federer, but also because of the comparison of three tennis players who marked one of the strongest eras in the history of this sport.
