Despite her strength of will, the result in today’s race was affected by the consequences of the serious fall that Muzaferia experienced last week in Andorra during the official downhill training, which caused her to miss four races, two each in the downhill and Super-G disciplines, Elveda Muzaferia’s team announced.
The unwanted situation interrupted a series of good results from 22nd place in the FIS World Cup at the end of January, then 15th place in the FIS Europe Cup and 16th place in the same discipline at the Winter Olympic Games in Cortina. By missing key races, her chances of qualifying for the World Cup finals were reduced.
– Today’s race in Val di Fassi is the end of the Audi FIS World Cup season for me. The result is not what I expected, but after the wrist injury I am glad to be here. Unfortunately, at this moment, due to the injury, I was not physically able to ride as I wanted to attack and fight for the final itself, but considering that this was the Olympic season and that was the main goal, and that I achieved a historic result for Bosnia and Herzegovina, 16th place in the Super-G discipline, it is a good result that I am proud of – Muzaferia summed up the results after today’s race in Italy.
The twenty-six-year-old woman from Visočan ended the season in the FIS World Cup with six downhill performances, in which she failed to win points, and five Super-G races with 16 points won, and currently ranks 37th in the discipline.
– After a short rest, I will drive the FIS Europa Cup final races in Saalbach. When I look back at the whole season, it’s not what I imagined, but that’s the sport. One season is better, one is worse, I don’t give up and let’s move on – says Muzaferia.
The last, pre-final weekend in Val di Fassi brought a lot of excitement and Laura Pirovano celebrated in two downhill races, and two more Italian women finished on the Super-G podium today, Elena Curtoni as the winner and Asja Zenere as the third place. Second place went to Kajsa Viskhoff Lie. The only representative of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the highest ranking of world skiing had starting number 22 and with a gap of three seconds and 35 hundredths at the end, out of 57 competitors, she took 42nd place.
The final of the Audi FIS World Cup, in which the top 25 in the discipline go, will be held from March 19 to 25 in Norway, and the final of the FIS Europe Cup, where Elvedina Muzaferia will perform in the fast disciplines, is scheduled for March 20 to 22 in Saalbach (Austria).
