Budget of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina for 2025. year, the allocation of 45 million convertible marks for modernization and digitization of clinical centers is envisaged. These funds will be focused on the renewal of medical equipment, improving the infrastructure and the introduction of new technologies with the aim of improving the quality of health care and working conditions of medical staff.
But the question arises – is this enough to overcome the accumulated health problems?
Key Challenges: Equipment, Persons and Management
Doctor and dentistry of the Sarajevo Canton and dentistry welcomes this investment, pointing out that it represents a positive shift, but warns that additional investments are needed.
– Reconstruction and upgrade of medical equipment are crucial to ensure faster and more precise diagnostics and more efficient treatment of patients. Modern devices are a prerequisite for maintaining health care standards, but even the most modern technology will not give results without adequately trained staff – highlights Primarus dr. Izet Hočko, president of the union.
According to him, investments are especially important in the modernization of diagnostic devices in the areas of cardiology, oncology and pediatrics, where patients are the greatest.
– These funds are a significant beginning, but we must have a long-term strategy for resolving the financial problems of clinical centers, facing serious challenges in maintaining the quality of services. We must not neglect the problem of politicization in management of health institutions, which further complicates the rational use of resources – adds dr. Hočko.
Rationalization of costs
Economic expert Igor Gavran warns that the health care system is facing the problem of irrational distribution of funds.
– Investments in modernization are necessary, but we need to see a wider picture. A major problem is an excessive employment in the administration, while at the same time a specialized medical staff is lacking. This leads to large costs that burden the health system, instead of directing the funds where they are most needed – the raven points out.
According to him, without a thorough governance reform, there will be no long-term improvement in the financial stability of health care institutions.
Investment is necessary, but system solutions are crucial
Although modernization and digitalization of clinical centers represent a necessary step forward towards a better health system, key challenges remain: rational organization, professional management and reduction of administrative costs. Without these changes, no million investments will not ensure long-term improvement of health care for citizens, writes Depot.
