An experienced attacker who was wearing Galatasaray jersey last three seasons, will remain remembered mostly for nine brilliant years in Napoli.
Mertens discovered that he would play his last game in Bratislava, within the revival of the match dedicated to Mareku Hamšik, his long-standing teammate and a friend from Napoli.
“I can’t wait for the last encounter with you. I’ve stopped playing football for you for you. For me, you’ll always be a captain and the strongest man I’ve ever played,” Mertens in an emotional video message.
During his stay in Naples, Mertens became the best scorer in the club history, achieving 135 goals in 397 appearances. His commitment, skill and modesty made him one of the most favorite players in the History of the Club from Juga Italy.
