The coach of the French national football team, Didier Deschamps, announced the list of 26 players for the World Cup, which will be held in the USA, Canada and Mexico.
Deschamps called 25 players who have previously represented France at senior level and one newcomer, Robin Risser, the Lens goalkeeper who was recently named Ligue 1’s best goalkeeper.
Risser was called up instead of Lucas Chevalier who became a substitute in the ranks of champions PSG.
Perhaps the biggest surprise is the absence of the Real Madrid midfielder Eduardo Camavingawho was expected to participate in the World Cup. Not even Tottenham striker Randall Cole Muani. Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta, who made his debut last October, was invited instead of Muani.
The attack will be preceded by the stars of Real Madrid, PSG and Bayern Kylian Mbappe, Ousmane Dembele and Michael Olise.
Before leaving for their training camp in Boston, the French national team will play two friendlies against Côte d’Ivoire on June 4 in Nantes and against Northern Ireland on June 8 in Lille.
The world runners-up will play Senegal in the first round at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford (June 16), then face Iraq on June 22 in Philadelphia and Norway on June 26 in Foxborough.
