“We were deeply shaken by the sudden death of the legendary sports journalist Edin Avdić. Your voice, emotion and knowledge of basketball left an indelible mark. Edin passed the youth selections of KK Bosna, and then built a name as one of the most recognizable figures of sports journalism in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region. Sincere condolences to the family, friends and everyone who knew Edin. An irreparable loss for all those who truly love basketball. May you rest in peace,” the club wrote.
Well-known BiH Commentator Sabahudin Topalbećirović posted on social networks on this occasion.
“The terrible, shocking news caught me here in Chicago… I still refuse to believe it. Edin Avdić is gone. This journalistic and commentator job of ours is really difficult, specific and incredibly stressful. It consumes a person to the maximum, you put your whole heart into every second of the program, and the public rarely sees the price we pay. Tragedies like this remind us of it in the cruelest way. It’s really a shock, a huge shock…
I remember him since his first journalistic steps at FTV. It was immediately apparent what an extraordinary talent he was. Edin was a walking basketball encyclopedia, but also a man with a great, unique sense of humor. The distance in these moments makes everything even more difficult. Thank you for every story you share and everything you have given to our profession. Sincere condolences to the family,” he said.
Also, the Faculty of Political Sciences, which Avdić graduated from, sent an emotional message.
“The Faculty of Political Sciences of the University of Sarajevo regretfully received the news of the premature departure of our alumni and one of the leading sports commentators, Edin Avdić. His death is an irreparable loss for his family, friends, colleagues, the sports public in BiH and us at the Faculty, whose student colleague Avdić was. We will remember him as a cheerful and smiling colleague during his studies and a top professional after his studies. We send our deepest condolences to his relatives,” they wrote.
His departure leaves a great void in Bosnian journalism and sports.
Recordings remain, words remain, memories remain of a man who knew how to convey the emotion of the moment better than many.
