Manchester United’s (dis)concern: The iconic stadium hit by an infestation of mice

It is known that Manchester United has had problems with its iconic Old Trafford stadium for years. Insufficient investment in the reconstruction of the infrastructure of the majority owners, the American Glazer family, has resulted in the legendary stadium lagging behind the most modern stadiums in the world over the years.

The most famous problems are related to the roof of the stadium, which leaks large amounts of water every now and then during heavy rain, and after returning to United, Cristiano Ronaldo pointed out that the working conditions were the same as when he left the club in a transfer to Real Madrid.

Since the arrival of Sir Jim Ratcliffe in the ownership structure, there have been talks about the possible construction of a new stadium, and those plans should be defined in the near future.

Meanwhile, Manchester United once again showed their disdain for Old Trafford. The English Daily Mail reports that the stadium has been affected by an infestation of mice. The faeces were reportedly discovered during a recent visit by hygiene inspectors, resulting in the club being given a two-star rating, well below the maximum five stars.

Club officials have initiated collaboration with pest control partners and the local council and are implementing a range of measures aimed at solving the problem. Inspectors reportedly found evidence of mouse activity in the business suites on the ground floor and in a kiosk that sells food to fans.

They subsequently downgraded the food’s hygiene rating from four stars to two – and ordered improvements to be made. The problem is related to the location of the stadium between the canal and the railway line. The problem is often exacerbated by colder temperatures in the winter, causing mice to gravitate towards warmer and more sheltered areas.

The English report that pest controllers now visit Old Trafford between four and five times a week. They also point out that neither of the two finds was in a place where food is prepared. This problem is the last in a series related to the stadium, which was originally built in 1910.
