The Minister of Culture and Sports of Sarajevo Canton, Kenan Magoda, spoke on the occasion of, as he stated, the increasingly complex situation in Sarajevo football, saying that the attitude towards clubs and sports workers from this Canton has long since ceased to be only a sports issue.
Magoda claims that they have been trying to influence the fate of clubs outside the Sarajevo Canton for a long time, with the support of individuals from the Canton itself who, as he said, are working against the interests of Sarajevo sports.
“While the clubs are fighting on the field, some are trying to shape their destiny outside the Sarajevo Canton, with the support of people from our canton who are ready to sell the interest of Sarajevo sports for the sake of their own combinations,” said Magoda.
According to him, pressures, obstructions and individual interests have been tolerated for too long, which, he says, override the will of the majority of Sarajevo clubs.
“For too long we have been watching how individual interests, obstructions, pressures and blackmail are placed over the will of the majority of Sarajevo clubs. For too long we have been listening to the same stories while trying to manage Sarajevo football behind the scenes through brokerage and private arrangements. This cannot and will not happen anymore,” the minister pointed out.
For this reason, a meeting has been scheduled for tomorrow at the Ministry of Culture and Sports of Sarajevo Canton, where, as announced, representatives of clubs, people from football and other relevant actors will attend.
“It’s time to call things by their right name and to finally move towards a solution. Not because of me or anyone else’s position, but because of sports, children, clubs and honest people who have been playing football in this canton for years,” said Magoda.
The meeting will be held in the Sarajevo Canton Government building starting at 10 a.m., and the minister invited the media to attend the discussion about the future of Sarajevo football.
Magoda warned that the collapse of the system due to private interests has wider consequences that affect not only the structures of the federation, but also clubs and athletes.
“Everyone feels the consequences, and these days our sports greats FK Željezničar and FK Sarajevo, as well as numerous other clubs that deserve an orderly, fair and legal sports environment, are feeling them in their own way,” he said.
In the end, he said that Sarajevo clubs must not be held hostage by individuals who perceive football as their own property.
“Even less must they be exposed to threats, pressures and blackmail from those who act outside the interests of Sarajevo Canton, and here they have their executors,” concluded Magoda.
