“The government made good decisions, the situation is under control,” Macron said from Kenya, where he is on an official visit, BFM television reports.
He also praised the adopted protocol, stating that France reacted very strictly and systematically.
“The best experts were consulted and France adopted a very rigorous protocol, taking into account all known scientific data,” Macron said.
He added that it is a known virus, which is different from Covid-19.
“The situation is under control, and now it is important that the World Health Organization (WHO) coordinates everything properly. Mobilization, caution and strict standards are needed,” said the French president.
The Minister of Health of France, Stephanie Ries, stated earlier today that there are no elements that indicate the wide circulation of hantavirus in the national territory of France.
She rejected the possibility of widespread circulation of hantavirus in the country, stressing that of the five French citizens who were on board the “MV Hondius”, one infected woman is still in serious condition and in intensive care.
The deadly hantavirus broke out on the Dutch cruise ship “MV Hondius” in April this year, while it was on its way from Argentina to Cape Verde, and the WHO confirmed seven cases of infection and three deaths.
