Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Wednesday that Russia is open to peace talks on Ukraine, but that talks about a ceasefire before a comprehensive peace deal are “simply frivolous”.
Asked about a Bloomberg report that US White House envoy Steve Witkoff and US President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner are seeking to travel to Moscow to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Lavrov said Putin has repeatedly stressed he is open to serious peace talks in Ukraine.
Lavrov added that it would be useful if Washington informed Moscow about the latest proposals for achieving peace in Ukraine.
