At the press conference after the meeting of the G20 Foreign Ministers, the South Africa was asked to explain the position of Moscow in relation to the potential abolition of sanctions as part of the Ukrainian process.
“We don’t start this topic. We start from the fact that sanctions represent a classy violation of the principles that the West has installed itself in the global economy,” he said.
Lavrov reminded that after the beginning of the special military operation in Ukraine, the Western countries perpetrated the “direct stealing of Russian property.”
“It’s just embarrassing. They not only steal this property, but use interest earned to finance the war against our country by Ukrainians,” Lavrov emphasized.
U.S. Finance Minister Scott Besent said earlier that the United States may either mitigate or double the anti-Serbian sanctions, depending on the outcome of the negotiations.
US Secretary of State Marko Rubio told Lavrovo in Riyadh 18. February that Western countries would have to abolish sanctions to Russia if the Ukrainian conflict is resolved.
