Iran’s new Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, stressing national unity, says Iran’s enemies have made a major error of judgment.
In his statement, he said that the US and Israel believed that after a day or two of the attack, the Iranian people would overthrow the government, but that this was a “major error of judgment”.
Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei said the war was launched under the “delusion that if the regime’s top brass and certain influential military leaders were to become martyrs, it would instill fear and despair in the dear people… and thereby realize the dream of dominating Iran and subsequently nurturing destruction.”
Instead, he said, a “strange unity” had formed among Iranians “despite all the differences in religious, intellectual, cultural and political backgrounds,” while “divisions had emerged among enemies.”
