In mid-June, Israel launched an unprecedented bombing campaign against Iran, sparking a war in which the US briefly joined in attacks on Iran’s nuclear facilities.
The 12-day war with Israel, which prompted an Iranian response with missile and drone strikes, has disrupted nuclear talks between Tehran and Washington that began in April.
A ceasefire between Iran and Israel has been in effect since June 24.
– If the country becomes strong and the enemy realizes that confronting this strong nation will not bring profit, but loss, the country will surely gain immunity – added Khamenei.
Iran has faced international sanctions for years, especially after the United States withdrew from the nuclear deal in 2018 and reimposed sanctions.
In September, the United Nations reimposed sanctions under the so-called “snapback” mechanism after the UK, France and Germany initiated the process.
On Sunday, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said in an interview with Al Jazeera that Tehran was still “ready to enter into negotiations” with Washington, but only on its nuclear program, excluding any talks on its missile capabilities.
He added that the talks could continue “whenever the Americans are ready to negotiate equally and on the basis of mutual interests. They are obviously not in a hurry. Neither are we,” reports Reuters.
