The Central Election Commission of Bosnia and Herzegovina (CEC BiH) today, May 7, at its session, adopted the decision to call the General Elections, which will be held this year, on Sunday, October 4.
After the session, a media conference was held where the head of the CEC, Jovan Kalaba, addressed the public. At the beginning, he reminded that the elections will be held for the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the House of Representatives of the Parliament of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the House of Representatives of the Parliament of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the National Assembly of the Bosnia and Herzegovina Entity of the RS, the president and vice-presidents of the RS and ten cantonal assemblies in the Federation of BiH.
Kalaba pointed out that today the CEC of Bosnia and Herzegovina adopted instructions on the deadlines and sequence of activities, reminded that every adult citizen of BiH, with the extraction of an identity card, is entered in the central voter list (which was closed on May 6 at 24 hours), and that our citizens, who are abroad, if they want to register to vote in the elections, can do so until July 21, 2026, on the CEC’s official website via the portal e-elections, where there is a user manual, which is available from today.
He also added that political parties and independent candidates submit certifications from May 8 to 22 – electronically, and that the submission of candidate lists begins on June 24 and lasts until July 6.
– After the checks and certifications have been carried out, the CEC will publish all candidate lists in the official newspaper and daily press by August 20 – he said.
The campaign begins on September 4, and until then political advertising and premature political campaigning are absolutely prohibited. Kalaba underlined that the CEC can sanction political entities for violating the above, but also for spreading misinformation.
– We are authorized to initiate proceedings and impose sanctions – said Kalaba.
He then said that they sent a request to approve 24.3 million for the General Election, of which 11 million for election committees and 5 million for labor contracts. Otherwise, according to the provisions of the Election Law, the competent institutions must secure the funds within 15 days from the announcement of the election, i.e. by May 22, it says. Avaz.
– I remind you of the previously approved funds of 112 million for the implementation of multi-year projects for the introduction of new technologies. CEC BiH made a decision on the selection of the most favorable bidder, we had a meeting with them yesterday. A challenging period is coming, because we lost due to the lengthy public procurement procedure, but I believe that we will have new technologies in the upcoming elections – explained Kalaba.
