One of the most important players in the history of Nottingham Forest, John Robertson, died today at the age of 72, the English club announced from the City Ground stadium.
During his rich career in Forest, Robertson played a total of 514 games and scored 95 goals, leaving an indelible mark on the club’s most glorious period. He was a key actor in winning two European Champions Cups, in 1979 and 1980, and stood out in both finals.
In the 1979 final, when Nottingham Forest beat Malmö 1:0, Robertson assisted Trevor Francis’ goal. A year later, in the new European final against HSV, it was he who scored the only goal of the game and brought the club the second consecutive European Championship title.
In addition to European trophies, he also won the English league title with Forest in 1978, as well as two League Cups, the UEFA Super Cup and the FA Charity Shield, making him forever one of the club’s greatest legends.
