Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosett said that NATO “like this, there is no reason to exist” and that the European Union on the global scene no longer counts.
Crosetto stated this on the margins of the Conference in Padua, according to the Italian news agency Ansa, portal Politico.
“Earlier, the United States and Europe were the centers of the world. Now there is a lot of another with what the relationship needs to be built,” he said.
“We often speak as if we still live 30 years ago, but everything changed.”
Crosetts comments come on the eve of NATO leader in The Hague next week, where the Alliance will be likely to agree on a higher-percent of five percent of GDP to meet the requirements of the US President Donald Trump.
