Istanbul paralyzed: BOSFOR CLOSED, Flights canceled

Due to the strong snowfall in Istanbul, which lasted for the third day, the ship traffic on Bosphorus is closed today in both directions.

The news was announced by the Directorate-General for the Coast Security of the Turkish Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure.

Turkish Airlines said that because of snowfall, some flights to Istanbul airports and from him were planned for tomorrow, he conveyed “Hürriyet”.

Otherwise, flights were canceled after the snow in the city and around him led to the Turkish Ministry of Transport reduced Istanbul Airport capacity by 15 percent on Thursday and 20 percent on Friday, while the other airport, the Sabiha Gokcen, reduced its own capacity by 10 percent.

According to the announcement of the meteorologist, snowfall across Istanbul will be particularly strong on Saturday and the amount of snow on higher altitudes will be higher than 20 inches.

Snow has also influenced land and sea roads, and Governor Istanbul Province of Davut Gül announced that from today it was prohibited from moving motorcycles on roads.

Meanwhile, the Turkish Traffic Ministry announced that maritime traffic to Bosphorus was temporarily suspended due to the fog, leaving the city islands cut off from the rest of the world and creating pressure on other city transport routes.

Schools across Istanbul provinces are closed due to weather conditions, while 1,100 homeless people are located in shelters and accommodation centers.
