The convoy of the Red Crescent Palestine Society (PRCS), UN vehicle and the fire vehicle of civil protection Gaza was found under fire near Rafah.
Israel originally claimed that the soldiers opened fire because the convoy “suspiciously” approached the dark, without lighted lights or signals. However, a recording from the mobile phone recorded by one of the dead employees shows that the vehicles had lights on while they responded to the wounded call.
Israeli defense forces (IDF) claim that at least six paramedics were associated with Hamas, but they have not yet provided evidence for that. They admitted that everyone was unarmed when the shooting began. The recording originally published by the New York Times shows vehicles stopping on the road before the shooting begins without warning.

Idf said the soldiers had shot before the car with three members of Hamas. When the outpatient vehicles arrived and stopped next to that car, the soldiers assumed that they were under threat and opened fire, despite the fact that there was no evidence of the weapons of emergency employees.
Bodies of 15 killed workers were buried in sand to protect them from wild animals, and vehicles were moved and buried next day to clean the road. Bodies were not found a week after the incident due to the inability of international agencies, including the UN, to organize a safe passage to the area.
The incident provoked calls of international organizations, including the red crescent, for an independent investigation. The Israeli Army has promised a “thorough investigation” in order to understand the sequence of events and the manner of treatment in a situation.
