An unnamed source ruled out any talks between Iran and the US amid the US-Israeli war against Iran, stressing that President Donald Trump backed off his threat to target key Iranian infrastructure after a strong response from the Islamic Republic.
Speaking to the Tasnim news agency on Monday, a senior security official said Trump backed down in the face of credible military threats from Iran regarding attacks on critical infrastructure.
The source explained that financial market pressures and bond risks in the US and the West have further increased, which also contributed, he said, to Trump’s withdrawal.
From the beginning of the war until now, according to officials, multiple intermediaries have sent messages to Tehran, with a clear response that Iran will continue to defend itself until it achieves the necessary deterrence.
– There are no negotiations and there were none – the source stressed, adding that in the current conditions of psychological warfare, the Strait of Hormuz will not return to its pre-war state, nor will there be stability in the energy markets.
The official warned that Trump’s five-day ultimatum means the continuation of, as he stated, the US program of action against the Iranian people, and added that Iran will continue with responses and a broad defense of the country.
His remarks come after Trump claimed on the Truth Social platform that the US and Iran have had “very good and productive talks” over the past two days about a complete resolution of hostilities in the Middle East.
Trump also stated that, based on the tone and content of those talks, he ordered the postponement of all military strikes on Iranian energy facilities for a period of five days, subject to the success of ongoing negotiations.
The US and Israel launched a large-scale military campaign against Iran following the February 28 assassination of the leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ali Khamenei, and several senior military commanders and civilians.
The attacks included widespread airstrikes on military and civilian targets across Iran, with significant loss of life and extensive damage to infrastructure.
In response, Iran’s armed forces launched retaliatory operations, targeting American and Israeli positions in the occupied territories and regional bases with waves of missiles and drones.
