A spokesman for Iran’s Foreign Ministry, Esmail Baghaei, told state media that Tehran was not considering such a possibility.
“I must emphasize that Iran’s enriched uranium will not be transferred anywhere under any circumstances. Just as Iran’s soil is important and sacred for us, so this issue is of extreme importance,” Baghaei said. He added that such an option was never discussed.
Speaking about the possibility of halting uranium enrichment, Baghaei criticized media reports that it was being discussed during the negotiations, but did not explicitly deny it.
Trump’s comments came after he said Iran would hand over its enriched uranium, which would then be transferred to the United States. “We’re going to work it out together. We’re going to go into Iran, slowly and without haste, go down there and start digging with big machines… We’re going to bring it back to the United States,” Trump said.
He also mentioned “nuclear dust”, adding that it will be collected “very quickly”. The term refers to what he sees as leftovers after the United States and Israel bombed Iran’s nuclear facilities last June.
