Despite a November 2024 ceasefire that was supposed to end more than a year of hostilities between Israel and the Iran-backed Hezbollah group, Israel has continued to attack Lebanon and has also kept troops in five southern areas it considers strategically important.
The Lebanese Ministry of Health announced that “an Israeli enemy attack on a vehicle on the Jadra-Siblin road in the Shouf district killed one person and wounded five others.”
The area is located about 30 kilometers south of the capital.
An AFP photographer saw the damaged truck with emergency workers and military personnel deployed at the scene.
Earlier, the ministry announced that one person was killed in an Israeli attack on a vehicle in Odaisseh near the border with Israel.
In separate statements, the Israeli military said it had targeted two members of Hezbollah, without providing further details.
On Sunday, Israeli strikes killed three people in separate parts of Lebanon, according to the health ministry, and Israel claims it killed members of Hezbollah.
About 340 people have been killed in Israeli attacks on Lebanon since the ceasefire agreement took effect, according to an AFP tally of health ministry reports.
Israel usually claims that the attacks target Hezbollah members and infrastructure and are aimed at preventing the group from rearming.
Tuesday’s attacks come as a cease-fire monitoring committee, which includes France and the United States, is due to meet this week.
Under the ceasefire, Hezbollah was required to withdraw its forces north of the Litani River, about 30 kilometers from the border with Israel, and dismantle its military infrastructure in the abandoned area.
According to a plan approved by the government, the Lebanese army is to disarm Hezbollah south of Litani by the end of the year, before tackling the rest of the country, reports AFP.
