German Chancellor Friedrich Merz emphasized his government’s commitment to ensuring peace and security in Europe in a Christmas video message posted on the X platform.
“We are committed to the peace, security and prosperity of our continent,” said Merz, who has distinguished himself as a staunch supporter of Ukraine.
He added that his government would fulfill its duty “patiently and persistently working to promote the interests of Germany”.

Merz also reflected on the eventful year in which, after the elections in February, he took over the helm of Europe’s largest economy.
The chancellor, who leads a coalition government made up of the conservative bloc and social democrats, admitted that reaching a compromise was not always easy.
“There were discussions and not everything went completely smoothly,” he said.
Many decisions are only being implemented now or will take effect in the long term, he said.
“We need patience and persistence, as well as the incentive to decide every day what is best for our country,” concluded Merz, reports Hina.
