Important warning for travelers from Bosnia and Herzegovina – The start of the full implementation of the EES system for entry into the European Union, i.e. the Schengen countries, from next month, apart from bringing news in the way of crossing the border, also points to an important issue that citizens must take into account.
Citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina have been warned that due to the electronic application of the new method of entry into the countries of the European Union, i.e. Schengen, which further increases surveillance, they will be refused entry if their passports are valid for less than 90 days.
That is why they are advised to check their documents in a timely manner before setting off on their journey.
The validity period of the passport must be at least three months longer than the intended date of departure from the territory of the European Union.
This means that it is not enough for the passport to be valid for another 90 days in order for entry into the EU, in this case Croatia, to be approved.
“The Border Police of BiH is not responsible for issues of entry and stay in other countries. For all conditions of entry and stay in the country you are traveling to, you should contact the competent authorities of that country, who will give you accurate information about the conditions of entry and stay in that country”, is the answer of the Border Police of BiH to the question of whether it is possible to travel to European Union countries with a passport that expires in less than three months.
Even if the border of Bosnia and Herzegovina is passed, it does not mean that entry into the neighboring country, in this case Croatia as an EU member, will be approved.
The Border Police of Bosnia and Herzegovina state that the validity period of documents must be taken into account when crossing the border with Croatia, because if the passport expires in less than three months, and you are traveling to, for example, Montenegro, Serbia, Albania, Kosovo*, or North Macedonia, the journey can be continued, given that it is possible to do so with a valid identity card.
That is why, it is warned, it is important to check the validity of personal documents before setting out on the road in order to avoid inconveniences, i.e. detention and return from border crossings, it says. NOISE.
