The European Union has taken a concrete step to prevent the announced collapse at the borders due to the introduction of the new EES system.
The solution arrives in the form of the “Travel to Europe” application, which should enable travelers to complete most of the border procedures earlier from their own armchairs.
The idea is simple: instead of dictating all the information to the police officer at the border crossing itself, you send it in advance by phone.
The application requires scanning a biometric passport (via the NFC function on the phone), taking a selfie for biometric verification, answering five standard questions about the purpose and duration of the trip.
After the system processes the data, you get a barcode that you just show to the officer at the border. All of this must be completed at least 72 hours before departure.
While it sounds ideal, the app currently has its limitations.
The first users report frequent technical errors, and what is more important – not all border crossings will immediately have special “fast lanes” for users of the application, reports Voice of Srpska.
There is still no official confirmation on whether and when Croatian border crossings (such as Gradiška or Brod) will fully support this system.
For now, passengers will feel the greatest benefits at major European airports, where automatic terminals have already been installed.
