The import of cheap honey in BiH jeopardizes domestic beekeepers. The price and counterfeits reduce the competitiveness of local medium quality.
Quality domestic honey in the local market cannot be purchased under 20 or 25 km, and the average price of imported honey in BiH is about 7.5 km this year, which endangers domestic beekeepers.
Darko Markovic, President of the Association of Beekeepers of the Republic of Srpska, said there was a great pressure of imported cheap honey on the local market, writes Akta.ba.
Markovic mentioned that only honey-quality honey can be obtained at the stated price of the world market, and called citizens to pay attention to what they were buying well.
– If we take into account the data that 847 kilograms of honey was exported in BiH, and imported 149,731 kilograms, we can see that there is a lot of imported cheap honey on the local market, which cannot fight with such low prices – said Markovic.
Quality most important
He adds that the bright point is in all that the data indicate that the price of domestic honey exported from BiH remains high.
– This shows that our beekeepers have managed to maintain the status of top quality of honey. The idea is to organize various activities to educate citizens about what honey, how it is and how important it is to use high quality, locally produced by Markovic.
It noted that this is especially important because it is one of the few foods whose compositions are not changed, has the same content of micronutrients, where to produce as much as the amount of hecar, and that product often has reduced concentration of micronutrients.
When it comes to counterfeits, it pointed out that the laboratories that are not trained to recognize the most sophisticated botherfixes of honey, which allows such honey to find such honey, both in Europe and the region and BiH.
– The sale of counterfeit honey brings great earnings because its price is three to five times lower than the actual product price, thanks to the newly recorded skills of professional counterfeiters – explained Markovic to enable quality Honey analysis.
He reminded that the Laboratory “Analab” from Serbia was accredited by the method that was possible in a great percentage and the authenticity of honey imported, but that the analysis was stopped, and the valuable equipment was stolen.
– The laboratory was accredited and she could find the origin of sugar in honey, whether she is from nectar of plants or is from sugar beet and reed. When the controls began, the import of 100 tons of honey was stopped at the border, because it turned out to be falsified, “Markovic said.
In the Foreign Traffic Chamber of Commerce, it was previously said that 847 kilograms were exported from BiH during the first quarter of Honey, while the 149,731 kilogram was imported.
