Agency for identification documents, records and data exchange of Bosnia and Herzegovina again warned the public about an organized campaign of sending false SMS messages to citizens, in which the names of state institutions, including this agency, are misused.
As they state, after earlier warnings, the attacks did not stop, but new messages with changed content and new Internet addresses were recorded, such as a suspicious link imitating the institution’s official website.
This is a well-known form of digital fraud, where citizens are sent messages with alleged requests for payment of fines with threats of deadlines and legal consequences, in order to induce them to open a link and enter personal or financial information.
The IDDEEA particularly emphasizes:
- they do not impose traffic fines,
- they do not charge via SMS messages,
- they don’t send messages with instant payment links.
They point out that it is the only official internet address of this agency www.iddeea.gov.ba.
This institution warns that the problem goes beyond individual jurisdictions and requires an urgent response from all security and police agencies in Bosnia and Herzegovina, including the identification of perpetrators, international cooperation and the shutdown of disputed domains.
Also, the need for cooperation with telecom operators was emphasized in order to enable technical filtering and blocking of such frauds.
Citizens are urged to exercise maximum caution – not to open suspicious links and to immediately report any such message to the competent authorities.
