Alexander Zverev, a 29-year-old German tennis player, won the first Grand Slam title in his career, in the final match of Roland Garros he was better than Italian Flavi Cobolli 6-1, 4-6, 6-4, 6-7(5), 6-1.
Previously it was Zverev lost three final matches at Grand Slam tournaments. He lost matches to the Austrian Thiem at the US Open 2020, to the Spaniard Alcaraz in Roland Garros 2024 and to the Italian Sinner at the Australian Open last year.
With the elimination of Sinner and Djokovic and the previously known non-arrival of Alcaraz in Paris, Zverev became the main favorite Roland Garros for many. He himself knew that he had a perfect chance to grab the premier Grand Slam title, but on the way he had to win not only all his rivals, but most of all himself, which was a problem for him earlier in his career and also in the final. But he went above and beyond and deservedly won the Grand Slam title for the first time.
The final match went on four hours and 16 minutes. Both players offered a large number of unforced errors, but exceptional and quality points, and in the end a dramatic fight in five sets.
Zverev opened the match authoritativelyimmediately with the break. Then he took away service games from the Italian tennis player twice more and won the first set with a very simple 6-1 in 35 minutes of play.

Frightened Cobolli he completely freed himself in the match from the first point of the second set. They both played evenly and very well during the second set, in which Cobolli made a break at 3-3, and then the Italian tennis player kept his advantage until the end of the set to equalize at 1-1.
Zverev and Cobolli are on equal footing outplayed in the third set, with the fact that the return of Zverev closer to the level of play from the first set was visible. The German seemed a bit more powerful in exchanges from the baseline, but, for example, fell short at 2-2 when he had two break chances.
With Zverev leading 5-4, Cobolli served to stay in the third set and had 30-0. This was followed by four points in a row by Zverev and 2-1 in sets by the German tennis player for a new advantage in Sunday’s final.
It is again Cobolli had the strength to fight back and took a 2-0 lead right at the start of the fourth quarter. Zverev came back with a break at 2-3, but immediately Cobolli once again took advantage of the more reserved game of the German on the opening shot and reached an extra break. At 5-4, Cobolli served for 2-2 in sets, but two great forehands with one backhand brought Zverev back to life in the fourth set.
The decision came down to tie-break where Zverev led 3-1, but then lost four points in a row, ending with a double service fault. Cobolli took advantage of the second set-ball and took the final to the drama of the fifth, decisive set.
Obvious problems with the legs and lost the advantage again in the sets, she did not hinder Zvereva, who opened the fifth set with two breaks and a 4-0 lead, and only then, finally, did he have a broken opponent on the other side and an open path to the first Grand Slam crown in his career.
