He added that “the largest package of strikes so far” is expected today, stressing that American military capabilities continue to strengthen, while, according to him, Iran’s are weakening at the same time.
“We hunt and shoot them, death and destruction come from the air,” Hegseth said.
In the continuation of the address, he pointed out that the USA achieved a decisive victory “on its own terms”, and accused Iran of investing state resources in military infrastructure instead of the needs of the population.
“Iran is a big country, but as in the case of Hamas and their tunnels, they have directed the funds into rockets, drones and hidden facilities, not into development and helping the citizens,” he said.
He emphasized that the American army, as he claims, acts “methodically, relentlessly and overwhelmingly, in a way that no other army in the world can”, adding that “the results speak for themselves”.
Hegseth acknowledged that Iran still has some retaliatory capabilities, but said they are severely limited.
“They will continue to fire missiles, we know that. But they would fire many more if they could — they simply cannot,” he said.
In the end, he said that the international community, including allies in Europe and part of the American media, should express gratitude to former American President Donald Trump.
“The world, the Middle East, our ungrateful allies in Europe and even some of our own press should say one thing to Trump: Thank you,” Hegseth concluded.
