Gunmen have abducted at least 227 students and teachers from a Catholic school in northwestern Nigeria, the president of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Bulus Dauva Johana, confirmed.
According to him, 215 pupils and students and 12 teachers are among the abductees. A few students managed to escape, but the details have not been released, the agencies report.
Authorities have closed 47 colleges in the region this week due to a spate of school attacks.
The latest abduction took place in Niger State and is the largest mass attack on school children since March 2024, when more than 200 students were abducted in Kaduna State.
