The Gulf States (GCC) and the UK reiterated their commitment to regional stability, stressing that the security and stability of the Gulf are key pillars of global economic security and are closely linked to UK security and international security.
In a joint statement, following an emergency meeting held on March 12 to discuss the latest developments in the Middle East, the ministers called on Iran to immediately cease all attacks and to unconditionally refrain from any provocations or threats directed at neighboring countries, including acting through regional proxy groups.
The ministers emphasized the importance of protecting regional airspace, maritime routes and freedom of navigation, as well as ensuring the safety of supply chains, ship operations and seafarers, while maintaining the stability of global energy markets.
They specifically mentioned UN Security Council Resolution 2817 (2026), which condemns any Iranian actions or threats aimed at blocking or interfering with international navigation in the Strait of Hormuz or Bab el-Mandeb.
The ministers agreed to continue joint diplomatic efforts with the goal of reaching a lasting solution that would prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons and stop the development and proliferation of ballistic missiles, drones and other technologies that threaten regional and international security. They also called on Iran to refrain from activities that destabilize the region and beyond.
The statement emphasized that the security and stability of the Gulf region are fundamental pillars of global economic stability and are closely linked to the security of the UK and international security. They praised the UK’s “significant contribution” to regional security and expressed gratitude for the UK’s decision to strengthen defense capabilities in the region, including the participation of Typhoon fighters in defense operations.
The ministers also emphasized the significant diplomatic efforts of the GCC states before the attack and reiterated their commitment that their territories would not be used for attacks against Iran. They confirmed that dialogue and diplomacy remain the primary tools for solving the crisis, praised Oman’s constructive role and emphasized the need to restore regional stability and security.
