Berlin continues to lead in Germany when it comes to offenses related to graffiti and similar acts that illegally alter the appearance of buildings and premises, including railway infrastructure.
According to police data, from January to October of this year, 1,983 such cases were recorded in the capital, which is about a hundred more than in the same period last year.
Munich took second place with 872 violations, followed by Hamburg, Nuremberg, Dresden, Leipzig and Cologne. Frankfurt recorded a significantly lower number of cases – 162.
The growing trend of these acts of vandalism is also visible at the national level. By October, 17,829 cases were recorded in all federal states, which is about 1,200 more than last year.
Deutsche Bahn (DB) estimates that the damage caused by graffiti on trains and other equipment amounts to around 12 million euros. Every year, their security catches more than 2,700 criminals, a quarter of whom are professional graffiti artists.
These data indicate a growing problem of vandalism in German cities, especially in Berlin, and call for additional safety and prevention measures.
