Referring to the historical letter of the former Foreign Minister Robert Schuman, the Ministry emphasized that the French recognition of Israel in 1949. did not prejudice the final boundaries, the principle that now reflects the recognition of Palestine.
“Three-quarters of the century later, the recognition of the state of Palestine is a necessary step on the way to peace and regional stability,” they added.
The Ministry said officially recognition would help facilitate “necessary negotiations” between Israeli and Palestinians on the finite status issues, including borders.
French President Emmanuel Macron announced on Thursday that Paris would formally recognize Palestine during the session of the UN General Assembly in September.
France will become the first member of the G7, the Group of the world’s largest economies, which will recognize the Palestinian State.
So far, 147 out of 193 UN Member States officially recognized Palestine officially.
This move comes in the middle of the Israeli Offensive at the Gaza Belt from 7. October 2023, in which almost 60,000 Palestinians were killed, mostly women and children, and which caused the collapse of the health system in Gaza and a serious shortage of food.
