Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu’s office announced that the country’s strategic stockpiles are “enough to protect the country for at least three months in the event of an epidemic wave.”

According to Matignon, that is, the office of the French Prime Minister, additional private and public supplies held by hospitals, companies and local authorities could extend the protection capacity for several more weeks.
The French authorities also stated that the domestic production capacity of the country is between 2.6 and 3.5 billion masks per year, which they consider sufficient to respond to a pandemic similar to covid-19.
“That capacity can be further increased if necessary,” they said from Matignon.
The French authorities are trying to reassure the public after the concern caused by the reported cases of hantavirus, while emphasizing that the spread of the infection has not been recorded in the country.
Matignon also emphasized that the virus is significantly less contagious than covid-19 and that only one case has been confirmed in France so far.
Hantavirus is a rare disease that is most commonly transmitted through infected rodents or their feces, although some strains can also be transmitted between humans.
According to the World Health Organization, the death rate can reach between 40 and 50 percent, especially among the elderly and people with existing health problems.
