The United Nations airline said that as part of the new rules, the use of portable batteries on flights will be limited to two per passenger from Friday.
Airlines like Lufthansa and countries like South Korea have already started to introduce restrictions on the use of power banks on planes, after incidents like the fire on the Air Busan plane in 2025.
In a statement, the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) added that only charging portable batteries during flight will be prohibited.
ICAO, an agency based in Montreal, generally sets aviation standards that are mostly confirmed by 193 UN member states, but the new specifications related to portable batteries come into force immediately, Reuters points out, as reported by HINA.
