The Minister for Human Rights and Refugees of Bosnia and Herzegovina Sevlid Hurtić said that the Salakovac Refugee Reception Center in Mostar, which operates under the authority of this ministry, will make all its capacities available for emergency and temporary accommodation of citizens whose housing facilities are threatened due to the continuous and heavy rainfall that affected the area of Herzegovina-Neretva County.
This decision comes after the Administration for Civil Protection and Firefighting of HNŽ issued an extraordinary warning due to the overflowing of the Buna river from its bed, caused by a sudden rise in water level due to prolonged rains. Flooding of certain areas has already been recorded on the ground, while there is a serious danger of additional endangerment of residential, auxiliary and infrastructural facilities.
Minister Hurtić emphasized that taking care of people’s safety, protecting human dignity and ensuring adequate accommodation in extraordinary circumstances is one of the key tasks of the Ministry of Human Rights and Refugees of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
In situations like this, when people’s homes are directly threatened, institutions must react quickly and decisively. The Salakovac Refugee Reception Center has the capacity, logistics and experience to provide security and temporary accommodation to everyone who needs it – said Hurtić.
Competent civil protection services continuously monitor the situation on the ground and act in accordance with valid protection and rescue plans, while citizens living along the Buna river are appealed to be more careful, follow official notifications and strictly adhere to the instructions of competent institutions.
Institutions at all levels of government remain on standby, and the development of the situation will depend on further weather conditions and the amount of precipitation in the coming days, it says. NOISE.
