The helicopter crashed on one of the most popular tourist hiking routes on Kilimanjaro, between Barafu camp and Kibo peak, at an altitude of more than 4,000 m.

According to the police, the aircraft crashed during a rescue mission, while it was on its way to pick up injured people.
Among the victims were two foreign citizens, a local doctor, a tourist guide and a pilot.
Officials stated that the cause of the accident cannot be determined at this time.
Tanzania’s Civil Aviation Authority said an investigation had been launched in accordance with international safety regulations to determine the circumstances and probable cause of the accident.
Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest peak in Africa, with a height of about 5,895 meters above sea level.
Airplane and helicopter accidents on Kilimanjaro are rare. The last recorded incident occurred in November 2008, when four people died, reports DW.
