Fadil Novalić, the former SDA Prime Minister of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, who is serving a prison sentence in the state prison in Vojkovići, on Saturday, March 21, will gain the right to request parole in order to be released early, reports report.
Novalić, let’s recall, was sentenced to a total of four years in prison in the Respiratori affair. He arrived in Vojkoviće on March 21, 2024, and after serving half of his sentence, he acquired the conditions to submit an application and request parole.
The Parole Board decides
As Raport previously wrote, his lawyers are already working on a request that should be sent to the Vojkovići Prison Administration, and then to the Ministry of Justice of Bosnia and Herzegovina. In the end, the state parole board decides everything.
However, Novalić’s lawyers have not yet written anything to the competent institutions. At least not to the prison administration, which may be aware of it.

Novalić allegedly wants the Court to establish in Strasbourg that he was innocent and that his human rights and the right to a fair trial were violated in the process before the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Among other things, Bakir Izetbegović, the president of the SDA, announced such a possibility. Namely, Novalić’s name has recently been mentioned as an option for a member of the BiH Presidency. However, in order for Novalić to be a candidate in the elections, regardless of parole, he must be pardoned. This must be done by the BiH Presidency.
Izetbegović clarified how and in what way Novalić, as a legally binding convict, can be a candidate for a political position.
“He would have to get a pardon or a verdict from Strasbourg and I hope that will be the case. It’s time,” said Izetbegović while visiting MTV Igman.
He uses his days off outside prison bars
Novalić was sentenced to four years in prison for abuse of position in the procurement of Chinese ventilators, worth 10.5 million KM, during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Last year, he acquired the conditions, through exemplary behavior, to use the leave, which he uses regularly. Novalić goes out on weekends and uses his free days outside prison bars, he writes NOISE.
