Sarajevo and Željezničar will end this year’s season with a city and one of the derby matches of the 36th round of the WWin League of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which will be played on Monday, May 26, starting at 8:30 p.m. at the “Asim Ferhatović Hase” Stadium.
Sarajevo enters the derby after a 3:2 away triumph at Velež in Mostar, while Željezničar drew 2:2 with Široki Brijeg at home. The mutual duel between Sarajevo and Željezničar, which was played on April 4 in Grbavica, ended without goals, while in the first part of the season both teams won their home matches – Željezničar won 2:0 at the end of September last year, and Sarajevo won 4:0 at the beginning of December.
The clubs did not hold a joint press conference, as was mostly the case in previous matches, and today Sarajevo held its press conference in the “Svetozar Vujović” salon, where coach Mario Cvitanović and player Gojko Cimirot spoke about the derby and the season.
Cvitanović underlined that behind his team is an interesting and intense season, both emotionally and in terms of results, but that on Monday he expects an interesting game and a victory for his team at the end of the season.
– I will not go into the problems of the Railwaymen, everyone has their own problems. We also have our problems, but what we want is to end the season in the best possible way. What gives me security is the team – said Cvitanović.
He underlined that the players who did not play against Velež had a training session yesterday, where they showed the energy that gives him strength and faith in this team and the desired result on Monday.
– The day after tomorrow, I am sure that everyone will be at their best. We will give everything to win, because we know what it means. I can’t wait for that match with Željezničar on Monday – said Cvitanović.
Underlined how his players have proven their quality and their ability in many matches, which they also confirmed against Velež. In the derby matches, especially the city ones against Želja, he said that there is no relaxation.
Cimirot pointed out that everyone knows what this game means for the city, as well as for the players and fans.
– A derby is a derby, a special game and it is of great importance how the season ends. There is a really great atmosphere among the players. If we give our maximum, it will be good – Cimirot is sure, who emphasized that the older players try to support their younger colleagues.
He added that it was not easy to deal with the pressure, but the sooner they free themselves, the easier it will be for them.
The derby has no special result significance, because Sarajevo will remain third and will play in the qualifications for the Conference League, while Željezničar, which is fifth, in case of a favorable outcome in the table, will be able to stay ahead of Široki Brijeg, who will host Bijeljina Radnik on their field on the same day, starting at 6 p.m., which has overcome worries about survival.
A safe traveler to the lower rank is Rudar from Prijedor, while the other team that will be eliminated will be Posusje and Sloga from Doboj, who will play their last round matches on Tuesday, May 26. On Tuesday, namely, Borac – Posušje and Sloga – Rudar (6 p.m.) and Zrinjski – Velež (7 p.m.) will play.
