The contract includes six multi-barrel Chunmoo rocket launchers, three types of missile systems (CGR-080, CTM-MR, CTM-290) and operational support, ECDI announced. Deliveries should begin in the second half of 2027, reports HINA.
“Estonia began developing its deep strike capability this April with the acquisition of US HIMARS systems,” Estonian Defense Minister Hanno Pevkur said in a statement.
“Since multi-barrel rocket launchers are of inestimable importance from the point of view of military capabilities, I am extremely glad that, in addition to the American HIMARS, we will now acquire the South Korean Chunmoo systems, which will significantly improve the overall deterrence and defense capabilities of Estonia and NATO,” he said.
The Baltic country, which borders Russia and was part of the Soviet Union during the Cold War, sees Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine as a direct threat to Estonian national security and has increased defense spending in response.
