At least 30 percent of the funds are earmarked for projects related to climate action and environmental sustainability, including investments in energy-efficient agricultural equipment, renewable energy sources, and climate change mitigation and adaptation technologies.
The funding is part of a wider three billion euro EIB program launched in 2024, with a focus on sustainable investment and better access to finance for young, emerging and female farmers.
The first allocations are expected in Italy, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands and Spain.
EIB Vice President Gelsomina Vigliotti emphasized that the operation will help European farmers and agribusinesses to invest in more modern and sustainable equipment, strengthening resistance to climate and market pressures.
BNP Paribas Leasing Solutions Director Neil Pein added that the agreement reflects a commitment to transforming European agriculture through more flexible and accessible financing.
The initiative fits directly into the objectives of the EU’s Common Agricultural Policy and the vision for agriculture and food, and addresses long-standing market gaps in rural financing.
