About 40 passengers from a cruise ship affected by the hantavirus epidemic disembarked earlier on the island of Saint Helena in the South Atlantic Ocean, Dutch officials said.
The Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that among the passengers who left the ship were the wife of a Dutchman who died during the trip, as well as two other people who were already under medical supervision or hospitalized due to hantavirus, AP reported.
Dutch Foreign Minister Tom Berendsen confirmed in a letter to parliament that the passengers disembarked during a stopover on a remote island, but did not specify their current whereabouts.
Health and diplomatic services continue to monitor the situation and coordinate further steps regarding the passengers and the ship.
