Doroshchuk celebrated with a jump of 2.30 m a day after his compatriot Jaroslava Mahučik won gold in the women’s competition yesterday. Doroščuk, European indoor champion last year and bronze medalist at the European Open Championship the year before, cleared 2.30 m on his first attempt. Silver was won by Mexican Erick Portillo, also with 2.30m, while South Korea’s Sanghyeok Woo and Jamaican Raymond Richards shared third place with 2.26m. Woo is a two-time world runner-up in outdoor and a two-time gold medalist at the World Indoor Championships, Richards was a bronze medalist at the previous championships and Portillo won his first major member’s medal, reports Hina.
In the 4 x 400 m medley relay, the first four places were taken by European countries, while the USA was fifth.
Jonathan Saccor, Ilana Hanssens, Julien Wartin and Helena Ponette brought Belgium gold in the medley relay with a time of 3:15.60, Spain was second (3:16.96) and host Poland third (3:17.44). The Netherlands took fourth place.
The USA, which won the medley relay at the last two World Outdoor Championships, finished in fifth place. This time, Jevon O’Bryant and Sara Reifenrath made a poor first serve.
